Education
Bachelor of Science, Computer Science, 2008
Brown University, Providence, RI
Experience
Undergraduate Research, Brown University Providence, Rhode Island 2007
Worked 35 hours a week for about 7 weeks with a professor and a team of students from the undergraduate to Ph. D. level. During this time, I refined the following skills:
- work effectively on a large, complex project with an established code base
- determine and prioritize requirements for engineering software
- use version control to find errors, manage experimental branches, and document changes to the code base
The work required enhancing an artificially intelligent computer program written in Java™ that makes manufacturing decisions in the simulated TAC SCM competition environment, as part of a research effort exploring dynamic supply chain management. I gave a weekly explanation and demonstration of our research to groups of prospective undergraduates and their parents, which ranged in size from five to forty.
Teaching Assistant, Brown University Providence, Rhode Island 2006-2007
Worked at least 10 hours a week (often notably longer) for three semesters, two as a TA and one as a Head TA. Developed the ability to:
- develop and implement substantial creative changes in course content and structure
- interact one-on-one with confidence and ease
- communicate clearly and effectively
Duties throughout included weekly two-hour “walk-in” hours to answer students’ questions one-on-one; weekly two-hour labs in which help was provided in a group setting; grading; and more. Additionally, as Head TA I met regularly with the professor and two other Head TAs to plan the coming week’s syllabus; and three times a week I edited, rewrote, or wrote lectures to align them with our new vision of the course.
